Masturbation and Pornography in Islam

The Urge to Masturbate and Watch Porn

Sometimes you wake up aroused, clearly in the mood to masturbate, and you can feel the urge rising to stimulate yourself.

You lie in bed with your phone, watching a video or scrolling through social media, and you come across a beautiful woman dancing seductively.

These are the moments when self-control feels most difficult. The temptation is so strong that you’re barely holding on.

How do you stop yourself from masturbating when marriage isn’t even on the horizon?

How do you stay strong in a world full of temptation?

Rule #1:

Uninstall all social media apps to reduce the stimuli that might tempt you.
Even if you need them to interact with people, grow a business, or for any other reason, it’s irrelevant. We’re on a mission to conquer lust, and that requires time and strength.

Rule #2:

Do not use your phone, laptop, or any electronic device alone in your room for entertainment.
When you’re alone, the chances of watching something that inspires you to sin are high. So, avoid using the internet in isolation as much as possible.

You might think it’s absurd to deny yourself access to the internet—but what’s truly absurd is masturbating to people who don’t even know you exist. Not to mention that Allah has forbidden it.

Rule #3:

Find something that helps you release excess energy.
When you’re young, you have energy to burn. Engage in physical activities like working out or sports to help manage your urges.

Rule #4:

Establish a morning and evening routine.
Structure keeps your mind and body occupied and reduces moments of boredom that lead to temptation.

Rule #5:

Identify when your urges are strongest.
For most people, boredom is the common trigger. Find productive habits that keep you engaged. What helps me is developing the habit of reading and writing.

Rule #6:

Focus on becoming a future spouse.
Develop the skills you need to improve your finances and work on personal and religious growth. That way, when the opportunity for marriage arises, you’ll be ready.
There’s no better protection from forbidden desires than halal intimacy through marriage.

If you follow these rules, you’ll be in a much better position to stay strong. And always remember: Allah is watching you and testing your ability to resist.
The Qur’an says that Allah is with those who are patient.

So be patient, my brothers and sisters—the reward is near.

I hope this article was helpful and that you’ve learned something from it.
And Allah knows best!
